There is palpable confusion surrounding the probe of Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, amid mixed reactions from various groups.

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups has described the call for Kyari’s probe as needless and sponsored by blackmailers, claiming the protests against him are baseless.

Truth Live News recalls that Kyari was sacked by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on April 2, along with others, over concerns about their performance.

It would also be recalled that Kyari had announced the commencement of petroleum products production at Port Harcourt and Warri refineries last year, but the production capacity remained under contention.

Several groups and civil societies have called for Kyari’s probe in the past two months, with some vowing to mobilize protests in the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

However, activist Igwe Ude Umanta has dismissed the calls for Kyari’s probe, saying they are an attempt to blackmail and tarnish Kyari’s reputation.

The Nigerian Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, confirmed last month that a forensic audit will be conducted on Kyari’s regime in NNPCL.

A report emerged early this May that Kyari and others were detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the mismanagement of $2.9 billion in state-owned refineries, but Kyari denied being in EFCC custody.
