The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has attributed the recent drop in cooking gas prices to the reduction in petrol prices.
The cost of refilling a 12.5-kilogramme cylinder of cooking gas has decreased to N16,250 from N17,500 in some retail outlets in Abuja.
This translates to a price drop from N1,400 to N1,300 per kilogramme of cooking gas in Abuja.
In filling stations or gas stations, the price of cooking gas has fallen to between N1,050 and N1,150 per kilogramme.
In Lagos State, the price of cooking gas has decreased to approximately N13,750 for a 12.5kg cylinder.
The downtrend in cooking gas prices has also been observed in other states, including Edo, Delta, and Niger.
The recent drop in petrol prices to between N910 and N950 per litre has contributed to the decrease in cooking gas prices.
According to the Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the country consumes 1.4 million metric tonnes of LPG annually.
The spokesperson of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, stated that the drop in petrol prices has led to a decrease in cooking gas prices due to the impact of alternative energy sources on competing products.
He added that the price of cooking gas may drop further in the coming months depending on international and domestic market factors.
