A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced Abdullahi Musa Huseini, a popular TikToker known as Amuscap, to six months in prison for violating currency regulations by spraying and defacing the Naira at his wedding.

The conviction came after Huseini admitted guilt to a single charge of Naira abuse, contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

The incident occurred on December 6, 2024, at the Ali Jita Event Centre in Kano, where Huseini was recorded on video flamboyantly spraying N100,000 in N1000 notes while dancing during his wedding celebration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed the case after receiving actionable intelligence about the currency abuse, and investigators confirmed that the act was deliberate and carried out in disregard of existing laws and public awareness campaigns.

Justice S.M. Shuaibu handed down the sentence, stressing that the act constitutes a serious offense under the law, and Huseini was sentenced to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The EFCC has repeatedly cautioned citizens against mishandling the Naira, especially at social functions, stating that such conduct amounts to economic sabotage and is punishable by law.
