NIGERIA, CALABAR – The Cross River State Government has announced Monday, September 15, 2025, as the official resumption date for all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state.

In a circular dated September 9, the Ministry of Education directed pupils, students, parents, guardians, and teachers to adhere strictly to the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr. Francis A. Oyije, who signed the announcement, stated that teaching and learning would commence immediately upon resumption.

“The Ministry enjoins all parents and guardians to release their wards to school, as academic activities will begin without delay,” Oyije emphasized in the statement.

The directive also ordered both teaching and non-teaching staff of schools in the state to return to their duty posts unfailingly on the resumption date.

Oyije stressed that the calendar was not negotiable, adding that compliance would ensure discipline and consistency in the education sector.

According to him, any school or parent failing to comply risks disrupting the structured learning plan, thereby denying children the right to timely education.

Education stakeholders argue that purposeful use of school time demands collective responsibility, warning that laxity from administrators or parents could erode the values of consistency and accountability.

The Ministry urged the public to take the directive seriously, noting that resumption delays in the past had often created setbacks that affected academic performance and moral standards.

Observers insist that punctuality and compliance represent ethical responsibility in education, reminding stakeholders that negligence would only shift opportunities away from pupils who deserve quality learning.

The Ministry concluded by calling on school heads, staff, and families to prioritize discipline and ensure the smooth take-off of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session.
