CALABAR, CROSS RIVER – The Cross River State Government has approved the recruitment of qualified lawyers into the state’s civil service to boost legal expertise and enhance administrative efficiency across ministries and departments.

According to the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Sir Maurice Effiwatt, the directive followed the approval of Governor Bassey Edet Otu who emphasized the need to strengthen the legal workforce for effective governance.

“The decision to employ more lawyers reflects the government’s commitment to restoring professional capacity within the civil service,” Effiwatt said, adding that the commission seeks experienced candidates between ages 18 and 45.

The recruitment targets six key legal positions, including Deputy Directors and State Counsels, with qualifications ranging from three to fifteen years post-call experience, depending on the level of the vacancy.

The application portal opens on July 2 and closes on July 14, 2025. Effiwatt urged eligible lawyers to take advantage of the opportunity to contribute to state development.
