CALABAR — The Government of Cross River State has suspended the April 2025 edition of its monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise to ensure free movement for candidates writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), also known as JAMB.
In a public service announcement issued on April 24, 2025, and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, the government stated that the sanitation, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 26, has been called off to facilitate “unimpeded movement for all candidates and officials participating in the JAMB examination.”
Governor Bassey Edet Otu approved the suspension, acknowledging the importance of the nationwide exam and the potential impact of movement restrictions on its smooth conduct.
While the sanitation exercise will not hold, the government urged residents and business owners to continue maintaining environmental hygiene.

“Residents and business proprietors are encouraged to uphold the ethos of cleanliness and environmental stewardship by tending to their surroundings, clearing drainages and gutters, and responsibly disposing of their waste,” the statement read.
Gill emphasized the government’s commitment to public health and order, urging everyone to act responsibly. “Together, let’s keep Cross River State clean and green,” he added.
The decision reflects a pragmatic approach to governance, balancing civic duties with educational priorities and public convenience.
