Godshield Kanjal Journalism Foundation (GKJF) a non-profit media foundation in Nigeria has frowned at the rate of violence against women by ‘alpha males.’ Movement.
Founder of the foundation, Godshield Kanjal, who disclosed this to reporters at the weekend, said the foundation plans to launch an initiative to track the cyberbullying of single women in Nigeria.
While revealing plans to train a large number of GBV Tracker volunteers to monitor the social media accounts of the ‘alpha males.’ Movement members, report or call on the public to sign petitions against them. Kanjal said: “Some of the accounts advise men never to consider women who are 33 years old for marriage.
The foundation alleged that ‘alpha males.’ advise men to only have sexual intercourse with these women and dump them, a development he described as is “bad and condemnable.”
Codenamed GBV Tracker, the initiative is aimed at tackling the trend of bullying of women on the internet by some group of pseudo-social media account operators under the aegis of ‘alpha males.’
“One of the Facebook accounts in the forefront of this ugly trend is a pseudo-name known as Allakaduna Nzeogwu.”
“Allakaduna has raised an army of men who are his ardent supporters and followers, who bash and mock single ageing ladies every day,” he continued.
“This is the highest form of cyber gender-based violence,” he said, “Once you log into Facebook, you will see different pages of men age-shaming single women and single mothers.”
“Why put pressure on these innocent single women? According to him, “They assume single women in this age bracket are running out of their biological clock, which is untrue.”
Godshield Kanjal Journalism Foundation said it knows a large number of single women who may fall in this age bracket, noting that these women have been thrown into severe depression and they are going through low esteem because of the bullying by these men.
