An interesting drama is unfolding in Benue State as a federal lawmaker, Terseer Ugbor is suing Governor Hyacinth Alia and his media aides for a whopping N1 billion over defamation allegations.

Ugbor claims Alia and his team defamed him on social media, accusing him of diverting relief materials meant for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Kwande Local Government Area. But here’s the thing: Ugbor says he was actually trying to help his constituents, requesting palliatives from NEMA on multiple occasions.

The alleged defamation started when Alia impounded the vehicle transporting the relief items, and then his media aides posted some pretty serious accusations on Facebook.

Now, Ugbor wants the court to order Alia and his team to remove those posts, issue a public apology in at least five national newspapers and on social media, and refrain from further defaming him.

This case is about to get really interesting!

Will the court judgement favour Ugbor, or will Alia’s team prove their claims?

A date is yet to be fixed for the hearing.
