Security forces in Katsina State have arrested a medical practitioner from Safana Local Government Area (LGA) for allegedly treating wounded bandits, including the high-profile Usman Modi Modi, who carries a ₦50 million bounty.

In a video that has circulated on social media, obtained by Zagazola Makama, a Nigeria Security Watchdog and Analyst, the suspect, Lawan Ado from Safana LGA, confessed to providing medical care to various injured bandits. He disclosed that these criminals would fetch him from his location to treat them in their hideouts.

According to his confession, “He (Usman Modi Modi) was first taken to a hospital in Taskiya for treatment, but two days later, they brought me to treat him further. I was paid ₦18,000 for my service.”

Ado also admitted to treating other notable bandits, including Mai Kudi, who he treated after being shot in Kurfi for ₦8,000; Audu, an aide to Usman Modi Modi, who also paid ₦8,000; and Dogo Mardi, injured during a robbery, for whom he received ₦11,000.

The doctor revealed he had traveled to various locations to treat bandits, mentioning one known as Karanboguwa among others.

This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges in combating banditry in Nigeria’s Northwest, where medical professionals are allegedly complicit in aiding these criminal elements.
