The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has assured that the military will ensure a free, fair, and credible governorship election in Edo State.
Musa stated this during strategic meetings with stakeholders and troops in Benin, ahead of Saturday’s election.
“We will act professionally to ensure an election without violence or intimidation,” he said.
The Chief of Defence Staff warned that anyone disrupting the poll would face consequences and reiterated that only statutory security agencies would be allowed to carry arms.
The CDS also cautioned local security networks and vigilantes to stay off election duties.
“We must provide an enabling environment for voters. Our role is to support INEC and the police to ensure a peaceful election.”
He emphasized that President Tinubu has no favorite candidate, and his priority is the people’s choice.
Addressing troops, Musa commended their readiness and urged them to work together with other security forces.
“We want this election to be the most peaceful. Movement has been restricted, and convoys or individuals carrying weapons won’t be tolerated.”
He further assured troops that their welfare and allowances would be taken care of.
With this directive, the military is set to ensure a secure and peaceful election in Edo State.
