The Edo State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has called for the profiling of cattle and their owners to address the ongoing farmers-herders crisis in the state.
AFAN’s state chairman, Alhaji Bako Dogwo, made the call at the inaugural stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, emphasizing the need for lasting solutions to the dispute.
Dogwo expressed willingness to provide more solutions to settle the crisis between farmers and herders, thanking President Bola Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development.
The chairman of the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) in Edo State, Mr. Jolly Idelegbagbon, urged the Minister of Livestock Development to establish a directorate of poultry in the ministry to manage poultry-related issues.
The state coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Livestock, Dr. Samuel Owoicho, stated that the meeting aimed to create awareness about the ministry’s transition from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Owoicho stressed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the livestock industry, enhancing food security, and improving the livelihoods of livestock farmers and stakeholders.
The Permanent Secretary of the Edo Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Peter Osagie, pledged the state government’s support and collaboration to ensure a roadmap for the ministry’s takeoff.
