Edo FA Conducts Local Football Council Elections

In a decisive display of grassroots democracy, Edo State witnessed the eagerly awaited Local Football Council Elections on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023.

This democratic exercise unfolded across the state’s three senatorial districts, ultimately filling crucial positions with qualified candidates.

In Edo South, contestants and delegates from seven Local Government Areas convened at the Media Centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City as early as 9 a.m. for the day’s highly anticipated elections. The event was marked by peace and tranquility as chairmen, vice chairmen, and council members were duly elected into their respective local Football councils.

Among the notable outcomes, Chinedu Uba emerged as the chairman of Egor Local Council, while Osasinmwin Aighobayi claimed the seat for Ikpoba Okha Local Council.

Edo South also witnessed Douglas Idahosa securing the position of Oredo Local Council boss.

Orhionmwon Local Council welcomed Austine Ogieriakhi as the championship winner, and David Omoruyi took the seat for Ovia South West Local Council.

The list continued with Inonoje Roland winning in Ovia North East and Bazuaye Esosa Pius as chairman for Uhunwode Local Council.

Moving to Edo Central, the elections unfolded at the Esan West Local Government Area secretariat, where contestants and delegates from five local government areas participated.

The peaceful process saw Osasuyi Emmanuel elected as chairman for Esan South East Local Football Council, and Omoba Aifua clinched the seat for Esan Central Local Council.

Furthermore, Friday Ehiagwina and Maxwell Akowe emerged as winners for Esan North East and Igueben Local Councils, respectively, with James Osebumen duly elected as the chairman for Esan West Local Football Council.

However, the Local Football Council Elections in Edo North senatorial district remained inconclusive.

The Electoral Committee and the Edo State Football Association are expected to announce their decision later.

In other exciting news, the State FA Elective Congress is set to take place on August 29th, 2023, in Benin City, promising more developments within the Edo State football community.
