Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Prof. Monday Lewis Igbafen, has tasked all aggrieved members of the NLC and its affiliates to sheath their words and embrace peace.
He gave the task as parts of the resolutions reached at the meeting of the Caretaker Committee of NLC, Edo state council with affiliate unions in the state.
Prof. Igbafen said the meeting which was attended by 14 affiliate Unions of the NLC noted and resolved as follows: That it reaffirms its resolute commitment to the mandate given to the Caretaker Committee to restore peace and order, to pave the way for credible elections in the State NLC.
Igbafen said the union commends the State Caretaker Committee of the NLC, Edo State for the efforts made so far to restore the dignity, principles, ethos and rights of the labour movement in the State, then resolved and passed a vote of absolute confidence on the Caretaker.
He said the union also appreciated the national leadership of NLC led by Comrade Joe Ajaero for the support to realise the mandate to reform NLC in Edo State.
He added that the union lauded the national leadership of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) for the decisive, swift and progressive decision it reached on the recent development in Edo NLC as it relates to the controversial resignation of Comrade Mike Ochei from the Caretaker Committee.
He said the union at the meeting, dispels the rumours making the rounds that the Caretaker Committee is an appendage of any of the contending camps in the raging crisis in the Edo State NLC Council and also unequivocally denies the erroneous mindset that the Caretaker Committee is against the Edo State Government.
He said the NLC assures the Edo state government of robust labour relations that will benefit the government, employers and employees/workers in the State just as it appeals to all aggrieved comrades to sheath their swords, and embrace genuine reconciliation and the virtues of comradeship to reposition the State NLC.
Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the state chapter of the NLC further listed affiliate unions of NLC at the meeting to include ASUU, ‎SSANU, ‎JUSUN, ‎NUCFRLANMPE, ‎NUPENG, ‎NUEE, ‎NANNM, ‎NUBIFIE and ‎NUBBTE.
