The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for swiftly arresting Kelly Okungbowa, also known as Ebo Stone, over alleged naira abuse.
Truth Live News reports that Okungbowa, the recently suspended Coordinator of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSRT), was arrested following a viral video that showed him spraying naira notes on two exotic dancers at a bar on March 9, 2025.
It would be recalled that the Edo State Government had earlier suspended Okungbowa over allegations of extortion, harassment, and unruly behavior.
In a statement, however, made available to Truth Live News, the Publicity Secretary of the Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Osa Nehikhare, urged the EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.
Nehikhare placed emphasis on the fact that Okungbowa’s actions violated the CBN Act of 2007, which criminalizes naira abuse, including spraying, stepping on, or mishandling the currency.
He stated that “The swift arrest of Okungbowa who was seen in a viral video spraying and mutilating the Naira sends a strong message that such criminal and irresponsible actions will not be tolerated, regardless of the perpetrator’s position or influence.”
He further charged the EFCC, saying, “We charge the EFCC to carry out thorough investigation on the matter and ensure diligent prosecution in accordance with the CBN Act of 2007 which criminalises the abuse of naira notes, including spraying, stepping on, or mishandling.”
The Edo PDP concluded with a reiteration of its unbending support for efforts to uphold the sanctity of the national currency and called for strict enforcement of financial laws.
