Nigerian singer and rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has said he didn’t attack Seyi Tinubu with his new song “Tell Your Papa”, but rather responded to the president’s son’s statement that his father, Bola Tinubu, is Nigeria’s best-ever president.

Abdulkareem made this clarification on Channels Television’s “Rubbin’ Minds” program monitored by Truth Live News, stating that his song was a call for Seyi Tinubu to urge his father to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

The song was inspired by Seyi Tinubu’s video statement, and Abdulkareem noted that Nigerian youths are asking for basic necessities like electricity, security, enabling economic environment, job creation, and not palliatives.

Abdulkareem affirmed that he wouldn’t have recorded the song if Seyi Tinubu hadn’t made the statement, and he’s not attacking him personally.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has, however, banned the song from radio and television, labeling it “inappropriate”, but many Nigerians, including Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, have condemned the ban, describing it as censorship and a threat to free speech.

Abdulkareem also lamented that his 2001 song “Nigeria Jagajaga” remains relevant 24 years later due to Nigeria’s lack of development.
