CP Echeng Echeng, the commissioner of Police in Anambra state has promised a peaceful election in the state during his statement yesterday in Akwa. He pledged that Anambra residents will turn out to vote for their preffered candidates in the tomorrow’s general election, as well as in the state house of Assembly elections that is to hold on March 11.
Citing the Police Act of 2020 and the Electoral Act of 2022, which designate the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as the primary internal security agency, he assured that the police force had developed a comprehensive strategy, in coordination with INEC, military formations, and other security agencies in the state, to provide an enabling security environment for peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.
Giving specifics on the election day security plan, he stated that the Command is prepared to send out unarmed law enforcement officers to man 5,720 polling locations throughout the state and to escort and protect all INEC officers and ad hoc staff who are on election duty and also protect all sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials.
