The Emir of Yashikira, Umoru Seriki, has expressed distress over alleged attacks by a terrorist group named ‘Mahmuda’ in parts of Kwara and Niger states.
The traditional ruler lamented that the communities are being abandoned by the authorities despite their complaints about the terrorist activities.
The Emir stated that the situation has left the communities demoralized and feeling helpless, with no choice but to defend themselves.
The attacks, according to him, are not limited to Baruten and Kaiama local governments in Kwara state but also extend to Borgu Kingdom in Niger State.
The Emir confirmed a recent attack by the terrorists, which resulted in the bombing of a security vehicle bought by the people for vigilante operations.
However, the Kwara State Police Command has refuted the claims, stating that comprehensive threat assessments and intelligence surveillance have yielded no evidence of insurgent activity or mass casualty incidents.
The police command assured the public that all security formations in Kwara State remain proactive and strategically deployed to safeguard lives and property.
The command urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of generating unnecessary panic and encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities through official channels.
