… Gives Fleeing Others Seven-Day Ultimatum
Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting
In a strong determination to free the state of cultism and other social vices, the Edo State Special Security Squad (ESSSS), operating under the code name of “Operation Flush Out Kidnapping and Cultism”, has nabbed 31 suspected cultists in coordinated raids across Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The crackdown was said to have followed a violent clash between rival cult groups on November 13, 2025, which left one person severely injured.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Squad was said to have raided hideouts in Osigbemhe Lane, Arue Street and the Ewoyi axis of Uromi.
The operation was led by the Chief Security Officer and Principal Security Officer to Governor Monday Okpebholo, in partnership with the police, local vigilante operatives and the Nigerian Army.
Alleged weapons, cult insignia, charms, drugs and other incriminating items were recovered, linking the suspects to the clash.
Authorities say two key ringleaders, identified as Gift and Ache, escaped and are now subjects of a manhunt.
Coordinator of the squad, Idemudia Noah, said the raid followed credible intelligence accusing several cult members of triggering the violence over a fraudulent financial dispute.
He confirmed that all arrested suspects have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Area Command, Uromi, for investigation and prosecution.
He also expressed concern over the involvement of minors in the alleged criminal network.
The squad, consequently, issued a seven-day ultimatum to fleeing suspects to surrender, warning that refusal would attract “decisive consequences.”
Noah reaffirmed the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, noting that the operation would continue across Edo Central to restore public confidence and suppress emerging threats.
