Five farm workers have killed and buried their employer, Mr. Henry Oyagbomwan after collecting N900,000 he sold from his pineapple farm.
The incident happened on May 13, 2025 in Igueze village in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was said that after killing the farmer, they buried him in a shallow grave and fled.
According to the police account, after killing their employer, they were said to have called the family, demanding a ransom of N60 million, but the family insisted on talking to their patriarch before making payment.
The workers then reduced their ransom demand to N300,000 and cut off all communications after collecting the money.
It was learnt that following reports to the police, men of the anti-kidnapping squad went after the kidnappers and tracked one of them to Akwa Ibom State, where they arrested one of them, Bassey Uyong Umeh, in a creek.
Umeh was said to have confessed that the victim has been killed and took police operatives to where he was buried and the decomposing corpse was recovered.
Son of the deceased, Festus, said the cell phones of other suspects have been switched off.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer , Moses Yamu, said investigation would continue for other fleeing suspects to be arrested.
