Fayose Urges Court to Dismiss N2.2 Billion Fraud Case Over Lack of Evidence

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss the N2.2 billion fraud case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), arguing that he has “no case to answer.”

Fayose’s defense team claimed that the prosecution’s witnesses and evidence were based on speculation.

The EFCC had alleged that Fayose received N2.2 billion from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, which was withdrawn from Sylvan Mcnamara Limited, a company linked to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) under Col. Sambo Dasuki.

However, Obanikoro testified that the funds were proceeds from donations, fundraising, and campaign launch activities, and that he was coerced and maltreated during EFCC investigations.

Fayose had no documented interaction with Col. Dasuki or Obanikoro, according to the EFCC’s investigating officer.

Bank officials testified that all funds in Fayose’s accounts were considered legitimate and were not flagged by regulatory agencies.

The defense argued that the funds in question were campaign-related, and Obanikoro confirmed that Fayose was a beneficiary of donations in his custody.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke adjourned the matter to July 10, 2025, for ruling on the no-case submission.
