Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have called off their strike, which lasted over three months, and will resume classes today, (on Wednesday, July 9, 2025).
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT branch, announced this development in a communiqué following an emergency meeting.
The decision was made after teachers received payments for the new minimum wage along with five months’ arrears.
The union stated that a special committee would be established within two weeks to reconcile outstanding entitlements and develop a plan for sustainable funding.
However, it cautioned that the strike would resume if the government fails to uphold its commitments under the agreement.
The NUT expressed gratitude to teachers for their patience and thanked traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and others who supported them throughout the strike.
