A devastating fire incident has ravaged three shops at Sawmill Abaletu, Saki Road, in Iseyin, Oyo State, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 23, 2025, at exactly 03:54 hours, and was promptly responded to by the Oyo State Fire Service, led by ACFS Azeez.
“The firemen quickly swung into action and we were able to curtail it from spreading to other shops,” said Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service.
“Only three shops were affected, and the Fire Service was able to save the remaining seven shops and other nearby properties, worth billions of naira.
“The fire was as a result of the nonchalant attitude of a phone repairer who failed to switch off and unplug one of his equipment after closing work in the evening, and it ignited nearby combustibles,” Akinwande explained.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident, but the affected shop owners are counting their losses, with some estimating that goods worth several millions of naira were destroyed.
Community leaders and shop owners are calling on the state government for relief and intervention to help the victims rebuild their livelihoods.
