The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has announced the passing of its Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Francis Emmanuel Ogbonnia Okobo. He died in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, 2025, at the Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu.
In a statement issued by the Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Amuluchae Greg Nnamani, the Church expressed deep sorrow over the loss while submitting to the will of God. The statement described Bishop Okobo’s death as a painful event but one that is embraced with Christian hope in the resurrection of the dead.
Further details regarding burial arrangements and other funeral activities will be communicated by the Diocese in due course. The Catholic community in Nsukka and beyond has been urged to remember the late Bishop in prayers.
“May his soul rest in peace, Amen,” the statement concluded.
