At least 10 people have been killed and several cows rustled in renewed violence in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.

The violence reportedly started on May 12, 2025, when suspected youths slaughtered and rustled cattle that had encroached on their farms in Dayan village.

The attacks escalated with suspected Fulani herders killing at least four people in Danchindo village on May 13.

In a reprisal attack on May 14, at least 26 cows were killed and several others injured in Darwat community.

Suspected Fulani militias retaliated by attacking an isolated settlement near Wereng Kam community, killing six locals.

The Joint Security Task Force intervened, engaging community representatives to broker peace and warning against actions that could further destabilize the situation.

Truth Live News learnt that one suspect has been arrested and is currently under investigation, while 130 cows have been recovered and returned to their owners.

The troops’ swift response prevented the assailants from completely burning down Wereng village.

A mop-up operation was also launched to neutralize fleeing militants, as troops continue to maintain a strong presence to restore order.

Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, visited the area and met with stakeholders and community leaders to address the situation.

Truth Live News recalls that Plateau State has been plagued by violent attacks, with entire communities regularly targeted and displaced.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has vowed to take decisive action to restore security in the area.
