UYO, NIGERIA – The Akwa Ibom State Government will resume free food distribution in June 2025 to support vulnerable citizens under its Food Security Programme.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno, made the announcement during a meeting with 368 Ward Personal Assistants (PAs) at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

“We will recommence free food distribution in June. Our target remains the poorest of the poor across the state,” the Governor stated.
He urged the Ward PAs to ensure the palliatives reach the right people, warning against any diversion or favoritism in the process.
To boost their morale, the Governor announced a salary increase for Ward PAs from N250,000 to N500,000, effective November 2024.

The announcement sparked loud cheers and applause, with many PAs openly declaring continued loyalty to the Governor beyond 2027.
In his response, the Dean of the College of Ward PAs, Aniefiok James, said, “We are overwhelmed by His Excellency’s generosity and commitment to the people’s welfare.”
James also pledged the college’s unwavering support for the ARISE Agenda and the Governor’s long-term political vision.

The event was attended by key state figures including the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, and Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
Others present were Executive Assistant Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, PDP Chairman Elder Aniekan Akpan, Chief Assam Assam, SAN, and Senator Effiong Bob.
