Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has hinted at a possible reconciliation with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after months of political tension between the two.
The suspended governor said there is no reason why peace cannot return between him and his boss, Wike.
Truth Live News recalls that the fallout between Wike and Fubara began shortly after the latter assumed office in 2023.
Their conflict affected several arms of governance in the state, including the activities of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
As the crisis escalated toward a security emergency, President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
In response to the situation, the president appointed a Sole Administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs during the period.
Despite his suspension, Fubara held a reconciliation meeting with President Tinubu and Wike in a bid to resolve the matter.
Confirming the meeting, Wike described Fubara as a son, indicating openness to mending their relationship.
In a video address to his supporters, Fubara reaffirmed his desire for peace, saying there is no reason why he and his boss cannot work together for the progress of Rivers State.
He urged everyone to embrace peace, stressing the need for unity to ensure the state moves forward.
He said people claim he is not a politician but questioned what criteria determine who becomes a politician.
He noted that what matters most is the kind of respect one earns and not the one forced on people.
He expressed his desire to gain the people’s respect by serving them and not by lording over them.
He encouraged his supporters to correct him when he makes mistakes and assured them of his full commitment.
He added that the support of everyone is crucial and that collective effort is needed to move Rivers State ahead.
He concluded by saying he stands firmly with the people and remains dedicated to their common cause.
