A group, Africa Network For Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), has tasked the Federal and State governments to further beef up its investments in Social Investment Programmes (SIP) for the benefit of the people.
Speaking on in Benin, on Enhancing Social Investment Programme in Nigeria (ESIPN), he ANEEJ Executive Director, David Ugolor, , said increasing investment in the programs will create opportunities for millions of Nigerians to escape poverty.
Ugolor called on the donor agencies such as the African Development Bank, World Bank and the private sector to support the Social Protection Programmes at all levels in the country.
According to him, ESPPIN project is being implemented in Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, adding that ANEEJ is working with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) partners in those state.
He listed the partners to include Community Empowerment and Development Initiative (CEDI), International Peace and Civic Responsibility Centre (IPCRC), Akwa, Anambra state, Development Initiators, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state and the New Initiative for Social Development (NISD).
He narrated that the Federal Government designed several interventions such as the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) to address the increasing poverty level in the country.
He said with annual allocation to the programme exceeding $1billion, this programme transcends mere budgetary figures, adding that the development symbolizes our shared commitment to uplifting the vulnerable creating an equitable society
