Gabon head coach Thierry Mouyouma expressed disappointment with his team’s 4-1 loss to the Super Eagles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs semi-final.
The Super Eagles dominated the first half, creating chances for Victor and Jerome Adams Akor, while Gabon made a strong comeback after the break but couldn’t prevent the Super Eagles from securing a spot in the final.
“We were not good enough. We were not sharp enough in the offensive box, and we didn’t defend well in our defensive box. Nigeria did both and scored,” Mouyouma said, acknowledging his team’s shortcomings.
He added that the scoreline didn’t reflect Gabon’s performance, saying, “The match was decided on fine margins. The scoreline doesn’t show how well we competed against one of the most dangerous attacking sides in Africa.
The Super Eagles will now face the winner of the DR Congo vs Cameroon match in the playoff final, with Victor earning a spot in the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.
