Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has issued a strong warning against a planned mega rally and inauguration of a group reportedly loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, saying such a gathering could trigger unrest in the state.

Speaking at separate meetings with the Bayelsa Elders Council and the state security council in Yenagoa, Governor Diri cautioned that the state government would not tolerate any activities that could disrupt peace.

He urged security agencies, community leaders, and traditional rulers to be vigilant, emphasizing that political tensions in neighboring Rivers State could spill over into Bayelsa.

“Any attempt to import the Rivers State political crisis into Bayelsa will be resisted,” Diri declared. He also accused Wike of attempting to create instability in states governed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor highlighted concerns over a “renegade” former PDP member, whom he claimed was working with an ex-governor to form a parallel party structure in Bayelsa.

He stated that the individual had been suspended for misconduct and was not recognized by the party’s leadership.

Diri reaffirmed that all state-owned facilities require government approval for public use and urged Bayelsans to uphold the peace to sustain the state’s development.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd), commended the governor for his administration’s progress in the state.
