NIGERIA, CALABAR – Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State held his 66th birthday celebration with widows across the state in an emotional gathering at the State Library Complex, Calabar.
According to reports from the event, the widows expressed deep gratitude and showered prayers on the Governor, his wife, and the State Government for remembering them at a time many feel forgotten by society.

The celebration, which preceded the Governor’s official birthday on October 18, was described by attendees as a demonstration of the People-First principle guiding Otu’s administration.
In a separate event, Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, member representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, joined other dignitaries at the Birthday Celebration in Calabar to honour the Governor’s leadership and achievements.
Etaba, in a message published on his official Facebook page, described Otu as “a transformational leader who places Cross Riverians at the centre of every government policy.”

He reaffirmed his loyalty and partnership with the Governor, pledging continuous support for the People-First Vision and for the peace and unity of the state.

Speaking at the event, officials of the state noted that the Governor’s focus on human empowerment, welfare, and inclusive development has earned him admiration across political and social divides.

“Governor Otu’s humility and empathy define his leadership,” Etaba said. “His policies continue to give hope to ordinary people.”

The birthday observance continues with thanksgiving activities scheduled in Calabar and other local government areas across the state.
