Armed hoodlums have gunned down four policemen in two separate attacks in Kogi State on September 21, the Police Command has confirmed, with the assailants making off with service rifles.

The first assault struck at 8:00 a.m. along Ilafin-Odogbe Road, Yagba East LGA, where about 20 gunmen ambushed a patrol team from 70 PMF Kabba attached to Isanlu Area Command. “ASP Umar Suleman and CPL Bitrus Isaac were shot dead in the attack,” sources revealed, adding that the attackers seized two AK-47 rifles with 28 rounds of ammunition. The victims’ bodies were taken to the General Hospital Mortuary, and joint security forces have ramped up surveillance, bush combing, and intelligence operations to track the culprits.

Later that day, at 11:30 a.m., another group of hoodlums attacked the 37 PMF outpost in Abugi, Lokoja, killing Insp. Johnson David and Insp. Ehinola Oluwole instantly. A passerby, Isah Gilad, was also killed in the crossfire. “The assailants carted away a T06 rifle and an AK-47 with 30 rounds each,” sources stated. The bodies were moved to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for autopsy.

Kogi’s police commands are now on high alert, with strategic deployments to counter further threats.

The attacks have sparked alarm over escalating insecurity, urging authorities to bolster protection for officers and residents alike.
