The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce an immediate shutdown of all pornographic websites across the country. The lawmakers also mandated the NCC to ensure that all internet service providers (ISPs) block access to such content without delay.

The motion, sponsored by Hon. Dalhatu Tafoki from Katsina State, was presented on the floor of the House on Tuesday. Tafoki raised concerns about the harmful effects of pornography, including its potential to distort marital relationships, encourage adultery and prostitution, and foster unrealistic expectations that could lead to reckless promiscuity. He also highlighted its role in addiction, desensitization, and negative behavioral changes towards oneself and family.

As part of the resolutions, the House urged the NCC to take strict action against defaulting ISPs using the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act and the National Information Technology Development Act. Additionally, the Committees on Communications and Legislative Compliance have been tasked with overseeing the implementation of this directive and reporting back within four weeks for further legislative action.
