Amaechi Slams Tinubu Over Poor State Of Economy
Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has questioned the whereabouts of the savings from the fuel subsidy removal and naira floating policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Nigerian economy is dying under Tinubu, according to Amaechi, who was a former Minister of Transportation under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
Amaechi noted that the purchasing power of Nigerians has been watered down by the Tinubu government.
“You are making savings from the fuel subsidy and floating the naira; where is the money?” he asked.
Amaechi explained that the value of money has decreased significantly since Tinubu took office, using the example of someone who could buy ten times more with N16,000 under Buhari’s government.
In 2023, Tinubu’s administration announced the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, leading to skyrocketing prices of goods and services.
The government has claimed that the economy is on the right track, citing the cooling of inflation and relative stability of the naira.
However, Amaechi disagrees, and his comments come as part of the opposition coalition alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that recently moved to the African Democratic Congress.
