Several human rights advocates, including Femi Falana, Lanre Arogundade, and Edetaen Ojo, have raised concerns over growing threats to the family of late human rights icon Gani Fawehinmi.

The threats stem from a property developer constructing a four-storey hotel adjacent to Fawehinmi’s residence in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The developers ignored family warnings and built the structure almost on top of Fawehinmi’s fence, sparking fears of potential collapse.

A 1,000-litre water tank mounted atop the building has fallen into Fawehinmi’s compound on three separate occasions, fortunately without causing harm.

The advocates argued that the structure breaches Lagos State urban development and building regulations, specifically the mandatory three-meter setback required between buildings.

The group has called for the demolition of the structure, urging authorities to take action before a catastrophe occurs.

Falana emphasized that the injustice and recklessness surrounding the construction must not be allowed to stand, and the family’s safety should be prioritized.
