A 25-year-old hunter, Bashir Bala, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly shooting three civilians, resulting in one death, in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 4:10 p.m. at a known blackspot in Marabar Kankara, where Bala, a member of a hunters’ group attached to security personnel, had gone to purchase cannabis.
According to police reports, an argument broke out, leading Bala to discharge his rifle, striking three civilians. “One civilian was confirmed dead at the scene while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital for medical attention while the deceased’s body was released to his family after medical certification,” the report stated.
A joint team of police, Nigerian Army, and vigilantes responded swiftly, apprehending Bala at the scene. “Security measures within the area of responsibility have also been reinforced,” the police added. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
