Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has promised that the Igbo ethnic group will deliver more than 70% of their votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking in Ntalakwu, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State during a political event hosted in his honour, Kalu said this would be a way of appreciating Tinubu for his commitment to the development of the South East region, especially through the creation of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
“No other President has remembered the promises made to the Igbo people after the civil war like President Tinubu,” Kalu said. “He fulfilled the vision of rehabilitation, reconstruction, and reconciliation promised by the Gowon administration but ignored for over 50 years.”
The Deputy Speaker was honoured at the event with a traditional title, “Dike Eji Aga Mba” (The People’s Warrior), by the traditional ruler of Ntalakwu ancient kingdom, King Larry. The event was organized by the Atuma Grace Movement, led by former House of Representatives member Emeka Atuma.
Kalu criticized reports that some traditional rulers were instructed not to receive federal government officials visiting the state.
“The election is over; now is the time for governance,” he said. “Traditional rulers should be free to welcome whoever they wish. Abia State must remain a place where everyone can express their political views.”
He also reaffirmed the South East’s ongoing support for the Tinubu administration and urged citizens to promote peace and unity.
