Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State, has lauded the Edo Queens for their triumphant win in the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) title.

In a statement released to Truth Live News by The Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) on Tuesday, Dr. Ighodalo described the victory as a landmark achievement and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Edo people.

Edo Queens Win NWFL Title

“It is gladdening to hear that our beautiful and hardworking Edo Queens have won the NWFL title for 2024. This is the spirit of excellence for which Edo is known. I am not surprised because the spirit of sporting excellence is second nature to us in Edo State,” Dr. Ighodalo remarked.

This victory marks the first time the Edo Queens have claimed the NWFL title, and it secures their spot to represent Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Champions League. Dr. Ighodalo emphasized the importance of this achievement, urging the team to prepare for the challenges ahead.

“What this means is that there is more work to do. So, girls, I encourage you to be ready to give your all as a team and as individuals. We are solidly behind you, ready and willing to cheer you all the way to the top. Congrats.”

Dr. Ighodalo reiterated his commitment to sports development in Edo State, highlighting its potential as a significant avenue for youth employment and economic growth. He assured that if elected, his administration would prioritize sports to harness the state’s comparative advantage.

“We have already identified sports as a major area through which we hope to generate massive employment for our youth and earn reasonable income because Edo enjoys a comparative advantage in sports. Whatever we need to do to realize our vision, we will do it for the good of all. Our only appeal for now is to vote for us and make it possible for us to serve you and create a new Edo State for all of us.”
