The Katsina State Government has verified that over 130 security personnel have perished in the state within the last two years as a result of ceaseless banditry attacks.

The casualties encompass over 100 members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, in excess of 30 police officers, and an unspecified number of soldiers.

Dr. Nasiru Mua’zu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the state government has made significant progress in the fight against banditry since Governor Dikko Umaru Radda assumed office in 2023.

While 24 local government areas were initially affected by insecurity, 11 LGAs have now been “fully stabilized” and are largely free from attacks. These LGAs include Jibia, Batsari, Danmusa, Katsina, Batagarawa, Charanchi, Bindawa, Ingawa, Kafur, Danja, and Kusada.

The commissioner however pointed that four local government areas – Faskari, Kankara, Safana, and Matazu – are still plagued by frequent attacks. He urged residents to remain calm and united, stressing the importance of relying on factual information rather than succumbing to fear and misinformation circulating on social media platforms.

The Commissioner expressed worries over deliberate attempts by some individuals to create panic and incite fear among residents through the spread of false and misleading information on social media. He reiterated Governor Radda’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and highlighted the crucial role of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, working alongside security agencies, in the fight against banditry.

Furthermore, the government urged the public to respect the sacrifices made by security personnel and avoid social media mockery.

It also called on citizens, religious leaders, and community elders to continue offering prayers and support, remain calm, and report suspicious activities via a dedicated emergency line. The state government reaffirmed its financial commitment to equipping and motivating security forces and providing support to victims, rescued persons, and families of fallen heroes.
