In order to curtail the menace of herdsmen activities, His Royal Highness, D.Y.E Kanoba, the traditional ruler of Ekperi Kingdom in Estako Central Local Government Area of Edo State has ordered herdsmen out of his kingdom.

The directive is coming at the back of alleged sexual abuse of women, murder of some farmers and invasion of farmlands, kidnappings and other violent crimes which have assumed a worrisome dimension by the suspected herdsmen.

Kanoba order to the herdsmen alongside their families to immediately leave the community, according to him, has been conveyed to the security agencies, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to forestall potential breakdown of law and order at Ekperi.

“We have suffered enough,” said a youth leader. “If the government won’t protect us, we have no choice but to protect ourselves”, he said.

The comments by the King of Ekperi who is believed to
have migrated from Benin in the early sixteenth century, during a period of Civil war have gained traction on the social media space with some netizens describing the decision as timely and commendable.
