Iran, Russia, and China are scheduled to hold a high-level trilateral meeting on Tuesday to address growing tensions surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program and the potential reimposition of United Nations sanctions under the snapback mechanism.
The talks will focus on the UN’s snapback clause, a mechanism that allows for the automatic reinstatement of international sanctions if Iran is found to be in significant breach of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
“The European parties have been at fault and negligent in implementing the nuclear agreement,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.
The remarks come in response to a warning issued by the three European powers threatening to reimpose sanctions on Tehran unless it returns to the negotiation table to resolve concerns about its advancing atomic program.
