Abba Moro, a two-term Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recently been appointed as the Senate Minority Leader.
This decision comes as Moro was nominated by the opposition party in the Senate and subsequently affirmed. He succeeds Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon from Plateau North Senatorial District, who was ousted by the Appeal Court.
TruthLive News reports that the senate had earlier designated the Minority leader position to the North Central region, leading to Senator Mwadkwon’s nomination by the minority caucus despite being a first-time Senator. Abba Moro, known for his previous role as the Minister of Interior during ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, now assumes the key role in the Senate.
This development makes Benue state more powerful in the political scheme of things. Having the new minority leader from the Idoma clan and the Secretary of Federal Government George Akume from the same state.
