Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West in the 10th Senate, has announced his defection from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The move comes amid reported tensions within the SDP, particularly following the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the party.
Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Villa, Wadada confirmed his decision, stating, “The happenings in the SDP may not warrant my continuous stay in the party, and so, I’m on my way out. I could even say I’m APC, though I’ve not officially moved, but I’m APC.”
Wadada’s defection adds to the growing number of lawmakers joining the APC, further strengthening the ruling party’s dominance in the Senate as it approaches a two-thirds majority.
