The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary withdrawal of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues during an internal review.

In a press release dated Thursday, August 7, 2025, and signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC expressed regret over the situation and revealed that the issue stemmed from technical bugs linked to a newly introduced innovation known as paper serialization. This measure, which had been applied to key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics, was designed to curb examination malpractice. However, the internal post-result release process uncovered glitches that compromised the accuracy of some results.

To address the problem, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to the results via its online result checker portal. The Council has assured the public that it is working with urgency and transparency to rectify the situation within 24 hours. Candidates who have already checked their results have been advised to re-check after the specified period.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, fairness, and transparency, and extended apologies to candidates and the general public for the inconvenience. The Council thanked Nigerians for their continued trust and patience as it works to ensure the integrity of its assessment process.
