In a bold move to transform its agricultural sector, the Katsina State Government has injected N36 billion into key initiatives aimed at boosting productivity, empowering farmers, and ensuring food security.

Speaking on the administration’s strides in agriculture and water resources, Deputy Governor Hon. Faruk Lawal highlighted groundbreaking interventions that promise to reposition the state as a hub of agricultural excellence.

Truth Live News gathered that at the heart of these efforts is the procurement of 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer, ensuring farmers have access to critical inputs. Additionally, 722 motorcycles and knapsack sprayers have been provided to agricultural extension workers to enhance farm outreach and advisory services.

Further strengthening mechanization, the government has invested N21.7 billion in 400 tractors with accessories, 2,000 hand planters, and 10 combine harvesters, ensuring farmers across all 34 local government areas can scale up their operations.

Determined to foster year-round farming, the administration has revamped the Songhai Farm Centre, seven zonal produce stores, and the cotton value chain, at a cost of N790.5 million, creating sustainable opportunities for farmers and agripreneurs.

“The government has spent N273.6 million on various agricultural development activities, including purchasing and distributing 40 motorcycles for monitoring farm activities and providing agrochemicals for pest control,” Lawal noted.

As part of an inclusive agenda, 54,150 moringa seedlings were distributed to farmers, while 150 women received training and empowerment in backyard gardening and the formulation of nutritive food supplements.

This comprehensive approach signals a new era for agriculture in Katsina, where innovation, empowerment, and mechanization are driving progress. With these bold investments, farmers stand on the brink of a transformation that will not only secure their livelihoods but also position Katsina as a model for agricultural prosperity in Nigeria.
