A farmer in Kebbi State, Kabiru Kamba, has been praised for rescuing a newborn baby girl who was found buried alive on his farmland in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area.

The discovery was made on Friday when Kamba noticed an unusual mound on his land and decided to investigate, stopping some motorcyclists to help him dig.

They uncovered a piece of cloth, and Kamba immediately alerted nearby police officers, who arrived and dug further to find the baby girl, miraculously still alive and crying.

Kamba offered to care for the baby out of compassion and has since taken responsibility for her well-being, with his wife breastfeeding the child and committing to raise her as their own.

The Kebbi State Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group, led by former Permanent Secretary Hajiya Rafa’atu Hammani, visited Kamba to commend his swift action and presented relief materials to support the family.

The police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the incident, and the team assured that they would brief the Wife of the Governor for further intervention.
