Low turnout of voters have marred the rerun elections in Edo State.
The areas where there are rerun elections are Ovia South West, Egor, Oredo East and Orhionmwon/Uhunmonde federal constituency respectively.
At Agbado Primary School, Oredo ward 12, unit 23, election voting began by 8am and ends by 2pm.
The presence of security personnel were staged at the various strategic places at the polling units possibly to forestall any outbreak of violence.
However, there was a low turnout of voters.
Also at unit 20, ward 12, the situation was not different.
Speaking at unit 20, ward 12, Festus Egharevbha, a former local government organizing secretary and election Supervisor of the unit, said the election was peaceful but the turnout was low because of the market within the area.
He said the people do not play with their business, therefore, find it necessary to stay in their shops rather than coming to cast their votes for their choice candidates.
Egharevbha said the ward is a family one and that there is no need for anyone to foment any trouble.
“The election is peaceful. As you can see, the ward has always been a family ward. So it is a family ward, we are all one but the other parties, we are here happy together”, Egharevbha said.
However, Truth Live News gathered that the ruling party in the state employed the use of thugs to cage other eligible voters whom they sensed are not going to vote for them.
It was gathered that some of the electorate were asked at the entrance gate whether they are voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and if the answer is in the negative, such a person would not be allowed into the voting centre.
This action kept many voters out of the voting centres.
