MAKURDI, NIGERIA – At least four persons have been killed and others injured in a shooting that occurred at a bar in Makurdi, the state capital, on Sunday, April 27.
Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen, suspected to be cultists, stormed a popular bar on Akpehe Road around 8pm in a commando-style attack.
The assailants opened fire on those at the bar, leaving several injured.
Initial reports suggested over 10 deaths, but the police have confirmed four fatalities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi on Monday.
According to her “The suspected cult attack at Akpehe is confirmed, and investigation has commenced,” she said. “Four persons were confirmed dead, while others are receiving treatment in hospital.”

She said that the new Commissioner of Police, CP Enemari Ifeanyi, has vowed to crack down on crime, warning that he will not tolerate such acts under his watch.
She said that the police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.
