A 45-year-old man, Ambrose Mkpati, has died in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance believed to be Sniper, in what authorities suspect was a suicide.
The incident, which unfolded late on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in the Topland Community, Gbazango, Kubwa has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances of his death.
According to sources close to the case, Mkpati’s niece, Ms. Gania Karim, revealed she received a distress call at approximately 11:02 p.m. on Sunday, alerting her to her uncle’s dire condition. “She received a distress call around 11:02 p.m. informing her that Mkpati, a citizen of Benin Republic, had ingested the substance and developed complications,” the source disclosed.
With the aid of concerned neighbors, Mkpati was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where medical staff battled to save him. Tragically, a doctor on duty pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Mkpati’s remains have been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary, pending preservation and a possible autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
A bottle of the suspected poisonous substance, reportedly Sniper, was recovered at the scene, providing a critical clue for investigators.
As investigations have been launched, the authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help clarify the circumstances of this heartbreaking tragedy.
