Matawalle Orders Urgent Probe into Navy Officer’s Detention Amid Calls for Justice

Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, has initiated an immediate investigation into the detention of Seaman Abbas Haruna, following allegations raised by his wife, Mrs. Hussaina Haruna.

The Minister’s directive comes in response to a recent interview where Mrs. Haruna voiced her concerns, sparking public outrage and demands for justice.

In a statement issued by Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister on Media, Matawalle reassured that no Nigerian, especially those serving in the armed forces, should endure unfair treatment.

The statement reads; “Our armed forces are built on the pillars of honour, discipline, and justice. No officer serving this great nation should be subjected to undue hardship or wrongful treatment. The case of Seaman Abbas will be thoroughly investigated, and the truth will be uncovered. I assure the public that this matter will be handled with the utmost seriousness, and justice will prevail. We remain committed to upholding the integrity of our military and the rights of every individual under the law.”

The Honourable Minister has assured the public that all relevant authorities, including the Nigerian Navy, will be actively involved in the investigation to establish the facts and ensure justice is served.

Dr. Matawalle further emphasized that all military personnel, regardless of rank, deserve to be treated fairly and with respect. He stressed that Seaman Abbas Haruna’s rights will be protected throughout the investigation, and any breach of protocol will be addressed promptly and decisively. The Ministry remains fully committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring that no officer or civilian is subjected to unfair treatment or harassment.

The Honourable Minister urges the public and all stakeholders to remain calm and patient as the investigation progresses. The Ministry is dedicated to safeguarding the rights and interests of all its personnel, while ensuring justice is delivered swiftly and fairly.
