Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he had “serious” negotiations with Saudi Pro League officials about a potential move.
The talks came up during his contract extension negotiations with Liverpool, with Salah admitting he would have considered joining the Saudi Pro League if he hadn’t renewed with the Reds.
“It was a good opportunity to me,” Salah said in an interview with On Sport Egyptian TV channel.
“If I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool it would have happened. My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.”
Salah eventually signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield until 2027.
He praised the club’s negotiation policy, saying, “The negotiations were long, I know the club’s policy [in negotiations], we reached a middle ground that made us all happy.”
The Egyptian forward’s impressive performance this season, with 34 goals and 23 assists, likely played a significant role in his decision to stay with Liverpool.
The Saudi Pro League has been keen on signing top talent, and Salah was no exception.
Salah credited Liverpool fans with influencing his decision to stay, saying, “Liverpool fans were part of the contract renewal process – they put pressure on the management because I’ve been at the club for seven years. From day one, I knew they wanted me to stay.”
